KEITH URBAN SCORES SEVENTH #1 WITH “BETTER LIFE”
New Video For “Better Life” To Debut This Week
Oct 11

October 11, 2005 –  “Better Life,” the latest single from Capitol Records Nashville recording artist Keith Urban, has hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart after just 13 weeks. Co-written by Urban and Richard Marx, “Better Life” is the seventh Urban single to reach the top of the U.S. country singles charts, and the third song from BE HERE to achieve that mark.  It follows “Days Go By” and “Making Memories of Us,” both of which previously hit #1.

He’s an incredible singer/songwriter; a renowned guitarist with one of the most unique voices on the radio today,” said Jimmy Harnen, Capitol Record Nashville’s VP, Promotion.  “As you can tell by its number one status, ‘Better Life’ is tremendously popular at radio – listeners continue to burn up the request lines for it.”

The same week that “Better Life” goes to #1 on the country singles chart, the video for “Better Life” debuts on country music video outlets nationwide. Directed by Chris Hickey, who also directed Urban’s “Making Memories of Us” video, the two-day video shoot includes, at the beginning of the clip, a live acoustic performance from Urban on the banjo. The main performance portion of the video was shot at the popular L.A. River Basin, known to millions from the drag-racing scene in the movie “Grease.”

A live performance of “Better Life” can be seen in Urban’s LIVIN’ RIGHT NOW, the two-hour DVD concert film released on September 27th. In addition to the 18 songs featured in the film, the DVD also contains behind-the-scenes footage including Urban at sound check and personal perspectives from Urban about his music.

"Better Life" is the 16th song to advance to No. 1 on the country chart in 2005. That's a slightly faster pace than the turnover of chart-toppers in 2004. One year ago this week, "I Hate Everything" by George Strait became the 15th No. 1 of the calendar year.
