What got you into Country?

ok, so were all pretty much here because we are into the greatest sound around, country music.
But what got you into it in the first place? What made you discard those other genres, and say hey, this is my sound!

For me, I grew up with the sound of Charlie Pride, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, Olivia Newton John and even Australia's own Slim Dusty. I even remember dad playing those old gunfighter ballads (was it Marty Robbins?), so i guess i had to be a fan.

The thing for me that really got me back into the sound, after being a rebellious teenager, listening to anything BUT country (reggae included ) was watching George Straits Pure Country movie. Then that was it, only one type of music would cut it. And it's been that way since.

So how about you? What got you here today?

I don't really know what got me into country, but I didn't really start listening to country until around 1997, it was after i heard Shania, my mom was listening to her "Come On Over" CD. So thats why i am such a big Shania fan. But then i started liistening to Kenny, Toby, Alan and many more so thats how it all got started.

We don't have any country radio stations here in Montreal...although Shania is very popular on our pop stations!  I bought my first country CD because of the song Amazed by Lonestar, I think it was 6 years ago, as that song was played a lot on the pop stations! Naturally, I also bought Shania's Come on Over. But I really became a country music fan about 4 years ago just by watching our CMT Canada TOP 20 videos every Saturday morning on the specialized channel... now I can't listen to anything else!  I'm thankful for all the online radio stations!  Some of my favorite artists are Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, Gary Allan, George Strait, Alan Jackson... and the list goes on...

I ALWAYS WAS SOMEWHAT INTO COUNTRY ANYWAYS. NOT REAL HEAVY, BUT A COUPLE OF SONGS HERE AND THERE. ALWAYS WAS A ROCK / ROLL PERSON.

THE ROCK TODAY IS TERRIBLE. HAVEN'T LISTENED TO IT IN YRS. STARTED LISTENING TO SHANIA ACOUPLE YRS BACK

BUT WHAT REALLY SWAYED ME WAS BLAKE SHELTON. HE'S JUST DIFFERENT, IN A GOOD WAY OF COURSE. EVEN MY HUSBAND LIKES HIM. AND HE DOESN'T EVEN CARE FOR COUNRTY MUSIC. I'LL MAKE A FAN OUT OF HIM YET.

IF NOT FOR COUNTRY, I WOULDN'T WANT TO LISTEN TO ANYTHING ELSE. EXCEPT R / BLUES.

I used to listen to soft rock and oldies.  After the events of 9/11 all the stations were playing patriotic music.  As the soft rock and oldies stations stopped playing patriotic songs, I would scan the stations until I heard a patriotic song.  When I realized only country stations were playing them, I started listening to country music and realized I really enjoyed it.  Haven't listened to anything since.
