Landing a gig with the biggest country tour of the year would swell the heads of many artists.
Pat Green & Friends Where: Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, 16765 Lookout Road, Selma When: Saturday; gates open at noon; music at 1 p.m. Tickets: $20-$22.75 at Ticketmaster outlets Pat Green, however, looks at last summer's opening spot for Kenny Chesney and Gretchen Wilson as a chance to wave the flag for his friends back home before some 1.6 million concert-goers. "More people saw that tour than any other, and that was a tremendous opportunity to expose this Texas music," Green said. "I think it's vital if we want to see Texas music be where it was when Willie and Waylon were at the top of the game for more Texas artists to get out there on the radio and play the big shows."
He's doing his part at the grass-roots level, too, this time with the second big Pat Green & Friends concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, which drew more than 10,000 last year.
"If you get that many people anywhere you're doing all right," Green said. "I'd love to see this show continue and for San Antonio to be a place for our music and the Texas music scene."
To that end, on Saturday Green is bringing a lineup of Texas heavyweights and rising stars — returning friends Kevin Fowler, the Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen & West 84 and The Lost Trailers with show newcomers Cory Morrow, Shooter Jennings, Two Tons of Steel, Hayes Carll and Drew Kennedy.
